Human Rights Statement

Our Commitment to Human Rights

At Thibault Van Renne, every rug we create is the work of human hands. Behind every knot lies a person, a family, a community. We believe that the beauty of a hand-knotted rug can never be separated from the dignity of the people who make it. This conviction is not a marketing position — it is the foundation of everything we do.

Zero Tolerance for Child Labour

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards child labour throughout our supply chain. As a long-standing member of Care & Fair, the European carpet industry's initiative against child labour, we have worked for decades to help eradicate this practice from our industry.

Our commitment goes beyond monitoring. Through Care & Fair, the industry actively invests in:

  • Schools in carpet-producing regions of India, Nepal, and Pakistan, helping to ensure that children of weaving families have access to education
  • Adult education centres that provide literacy and vocational training for adult weavers
  • Day care facilities that allow working parents to provide safe care for their youngest children

We work to ensure that our production partners share these values. Our workshops are subject to regular oversight, and we require our suppliers to uphold standards that prohibit child labour.

Environmental Responsibility

Thibault Van Renne was among the first companies in the hand-knotted carpet industry to pursue ecological certifications for environmentally responsible production in India. Our environmental commitments include:

  • Water treatment: Our production partners use water purification and filtration systems to treat dyes and chemical waste before discharge, with the aim that nothing enters the local water system untreated.
  • Responsible dyes: We work with dyes that prioritise low toxicity and environmental safety for both artisans and their surroundings.
  • Sustainable materials: We strive to source wool, silk, and other fibres through responsible channels, supporting sustainable farming and harvesting practices where possible.
  • Waste reduction: Our production processes are designed to minimise material waste, and off-cuts are repurposed wherever possible.

Fair Wages and Working Conditions

We are committed to fair treatment of every artisan involved in our production. We work with our production partners to uphold:

  • Fair compensation in line with local industry standards and applicable regulations
  • Safe working environments with appropriate lighting, ventilation, and ergonomic conditions
  • Reasonable working hours in accordance with local labour law
  • Respect for workers' rights as defined by applicable national and international standards
  • Support for healthcare access through our participation in Care & Fair's community health initiatives in production regions

Transparency and Continuous Improvement

We believe in openness about our production practices. We work to maintain visibility across our supply chain and are committed to continuous improvement of our social and environmental standards.

We regularly review our practices and participate in industry-wide initiatives to raise standards across the hand-knotted carpet sector. We recognise that no supply chain is perfect, and we are dedicated to identifying and addressing issues as they arise.

A Legacy of Responsibility

For us, luxury and responsibility are not contradictions — they are inseparable. A truly beautiful rug should be made with respect for every person and every resource involved in its creation. This is our commitment to our artisans, to our clients, and to the communities that make our work possible.
